Management of Wound Myiasis in the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Setting

Complex wounds are common complications in hospice and palliative medicine (HPM), especially patients with aggressive malignancies. Myiasis, or an infestation of maggots, is a rare but significant complication such wounds. While uncommon the United States, many HPM have multiple risk factors comorbidities that increase their vulnerability to this condition. Currently, there no standard diagnostic treatment guidelines for wound myiasis. In addition, management strategies may not be easily accessible settings. We present case patient malignant squamous cell carcinoma neck complicated by myiasis while hospice, our experience diagnosing managing her infestation. also reflect on special considerations when addressing physical psychological symptoms
